Giving Good Days Newsletter – Spring 2025

A Message from Our President

Dear Friends,

The year ahead is going to be a busy and exciting one for Good Days! We are more committed than ever to helping those in need, and we’re working hard to expand our programs so we can reach even more people.

We’re also teaming up with amazing organizations that share our passion for improving healthcare and making life easier for patients and their families.

One of our new partnerships is with Guava Health, which offers a digital health tracker and Emergency Cards to help first responders quickly access important medical information. This means our clients can keep better track of their lifestyle and get the right care, faster, in an emergency.

Our assistance programs continue to provide essential support to families facing hardship. Read more about how one family found support for their two sons’ rare disease in this newsletter.

In addition to providing direct support, we’re also backing important public health efforts. We’re proud to support the launch of the Cervical Cancer Action Prevention Network to help tackle the high rates of cervical cancer in the Rio Grande Valley in partnership with the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine and South Texas Center of Excellence in Cancer Research. This initiative has been making a real difference, and we’re committed to supporting better health outcomes for communities in need.

As leaders of the annual Chronic Disease Day campaign, we’re also looking forward to working with the new administration and Congress to improve healthcare access and reduce preventable diseases. By partnering with policymakers and healthcare advocates, we can ensure that families living with chronic and rare diseases get the help they deserve.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us. Your support helps us continue making a real impact in people’s lives. Let’s keep working together to bring hope and care to those who need it most.

With gratitude,

Clorinda Walley

President, Good Days

Good Days Provides Relief in the Face of Rare Disease

“When my first son was diagnosed with cystinosis at 15 months old, I went crazy researching, desperate for support and understanding. That’s when I found Good Days,” says Christi, whose sons Braden and Dax both have the same rare disease.

As her family navigated this new reality, they faced an enormous financial burden. One month of treatment could cost up to $40,000—an impossible sum for any family. They owned a small business and provided healthcare benefits to their employees, yet the cost of their own son’s necessary care would have shattered their company’s budget.

That’s when they found Good Days.

“Good Days helped me appeal to our health in

surance and get some of it covered. They also assisted with premium assistance,” says Christi. “Good Days was there for everything—from ordering medications to finding specialists covered by our insurance. They were my only support system.”

When their second son, Dax, was also diagnosed with cystinosis at birth, they knew the challenges ahead. But thanks to early intervention and the right medication from the start, Dax has been doing great. Good Days has been there every step of the way, providing financial assistance for both children and ensuring they receive the care they need.

Now, Braden is 13 and thriving. He’s passionate about coding and computers. His younger brother, Dax, is now 8 and loves all sports, especially golf. Though the road ahead still has challenges—Braden will need a kidney transplant in the next five years—their family is filled with hope.

“Honestly, I still can’t believe it. There’s no cure for cystinosis, but we’ve been able to prolong my sons’ prognosis indefinitely, thanks to Good Days.”

Good Days and Guava Health Join Forces to Enhance Care

Good Days has partnered with Guava Health to provide free access to its digital platform and handy Emergency Cards for individuals who receive assistance from Good Days.

Medical responders are often unable to access medical records in the field. With the Guava Card’s QR code, they can now access life-saving information about your medications, allergies, conditions, and emergency contacts.

The Emergency Card is paired to a personal health tracker tool that helps monitor your symptoms, medications, and lifestyle easily.

Your medical information stays up-to-date by syncing with your doctor’s patient portal, and you can also add information and fully customize your emergency profile.
